Hooper, Lundy & Bookman: Health Care Lawyers
About HLB

About our staff

Dedicated Specialists. Each of our attorneys specializes in a specific aspect of health care law, such as Medicare and Medicaid payments, health care business transactions, managed care, fraud and abuse, licensing and certification, or litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution.

Our partners have decades of health care law experience, which they share with other firm members. As a certified provider of continuing legal education, the firm is able to provide in-house legal training on health care issues that is not available to the general bar. Because a number of our attorneys have also been health care practitioners, administrators or government regulators, we are able to offer an added dimension of understanding to the issues our clients face.

Cost-Effective Expertise. We do not over staff cases or train our attorneys at our clients’ expense. Most of our attorneys have had years of legal experience before joining the firm. Most have trained at other national firms or have held high-level positions in government.

Our attorneys also have established productive working relationships with key officials in many of the local, state and national government agencies that regulate our clients. These relationships provide us with ready access to government perspectives and often facilitate efficient and timely resolution of problems, whether in the context of a licensure survey, business transaction, or litigation.

Industry Leaders. Our attorneys rigorously monitor legislative and regulatory initiatives and judicial developments for their potential effects on the health care industry. As a result, we have established many landmark legal precedents, and have influenced the outcome of or successfully challenged many significant legislative and regulatory initiatives to the benefit of our clients.

The firm has served as counsel for many of the leading health care trade associations, including the California Hospital Association, the California Association of Health Facilities, the American Healthcare Association, the Federation of American Hospitals, the Hawaii Hospital Association, the Colorado Hospital Association, the National Association of Psychiatric Treatment Centers for Children, the California Clinical Laboratory Association, and many others.

In addition, our attorneys are often called upon to author and edit books and articles in their fields of expertise. Members of the firm also serve as editors for the California Health Law Monitor, a biweekly legal publication.

Our attorneys have also led such prestigious organizations as the Fraud and Abuse Section of the American Bar Association and the California Society for Healthcare Attorneys.
